Health and Safety and Emergency Response

Health and Safety and Emergency Response

In the last 20-years or so, international developments have verified that not only is worker safety of utmost concern from a personal standpoint but that it is economically viable to create and maintain a good health and safety (HS), and emergency response (ER) culture in the working place. This consideration can't be achieved through compliance with RoK legislation alone but requires the establishment of a behavioral safety mentality. In short, a "bottoms-up" approach in which all concerned parties are involved in eliminating potential unsafe behaviors and activities. EcoSocio Analysts' approach in this respect is to improve employee's perceptions through training and awareness improvement programs.

As part of our objective, we identify particular workflow processes that may inadvertently lead people to behave unsafely and/or be subjected to unsafe practices.

We incorporate our approach into our client's policies, plans, and programs to ensure workable results are obtained that are in keeping with the client's wishes.

Environmental Laboratory

Environmental Laboratory

Recent legislation requires monitoring of 1) technological processes and 2) changes in environmental impact - an activity that produces a continuous flow of samples. These samples can be sent to an external laboratory but the scarcity of laboratories in RoK and the questionable performance of some may lead to unreliable results. An alternative approach to this is the construction of an internal laboratory that is realiable, has higher sample turn-over time and in the long term, more cost effective.

EcoSocio Analysts has proven laboratory development experience in the RoK and provides international cooperation and advice on such development if required.

Specific services:

  • Market research and Business Plan preparation;
  • Laboratory goals determination;
  • Analytical equipment and supplies defining tendering and procurement;
  • Local and international certification;
  • Personnel selection, training, supervision and provision of international advisory support;
  • Laboratory and equipment certification;
  • Management Plan development

Environmental Audit and Management Systems

Environmental Audit and Management Systems

To fulfil environmental due diligence requirements for operations that involve existing or past activities, EcoSocio Analysts will perform an audit with defendable results. To accomplish this we use legally and internationally recognized procedures, laboratories, and approved field instruments. Knowledge of natural processes, GIS analysis, and a well thought-out sampling plan allows us to determine contamination pathways. To minimize the client's staff exposure we flag hazardous areas and suggest removal, neutralizing, and disposal techniques. We consider operational costs using current legislation requirements and the ALARA principle (as low as reasonably achievable).

An organization is considered to have complied with ISO 14000 if all components of an environmental management system (EMS) are present and functioning. We develop the EMS to enable the client to:

  • Meet vendor requirements by demonstrating reasonable care;
  • Reduce liability and the cost of insurance;
  • Save on reduction of material and energy consumption;
  • Improve relationship with controlling agencies;
  • Enhance image to gain larger market share;
  • Set objectives and measurable targets, roles and responsibilities;
  • Train personnel to carry out new responsibilities;
  • Establish new internal and external communication lines;
  • Document poor practices and near misses of accidents at the worker level;
  • Ensure continuous improvement through monitoring and auditing of key activities.

Specific services:

  • Existing contamination, environmental degradation and compliance analysis, assessment of associated financial risk;
  • Contaminant pathways determination;
  • Personnel comparative health assessment;
  • Accident modelling, risk assessment and damage cost prediction;
  • Impact Minigation Plan and associated cost calculation;
  • Certification of processes and goods to comply with ISO14000 standard and personnel training to perform internal ISO14000 audits.

Environmental and Strategic Impact Assessment

Environmental and Strategic Impact Assessment

Often time's considerable effort is spent collecting baseline information but the experience required to place that information into the context of impact prediction and the separation of natural fluctuations from the impact imposed by the planned development may not be forthcoming. In recognition of this, EcoSocio Analysts, using both local and western specialists as required, provides an internationally recognized approach to environmental impact assessment (EIA).

In this respect ESA:

  • Integrates historical data and planned media sampling into the baseline assessment;
  • Utilizes matrixes to check for all possible impacts and rate them in accordance to significance;
  • Has the required knowledge of developed technology processes and access to updated processes that allow us to make the correct impact predictions;
  • Utilizes advance impact modeling software;
  • Is able to compare our efforts to similar efforts previously compiled by our associated western companies and thereby formulate supporting analogies and reduce potential questions;
  • Recommends cost effective mitigation measures to ensure BATNEEC (best available techniques not entailing excessive costs);
  • Develops monitoring plans that will allow verification of predicted impact and alter mitigation measures;
  • Assesses environmental risk for each aspect of development and produce emergency response plans to minimize those risks.

We evaluate the likely environmental consequences of a proposed policy, plan or program for development of a particular economic sector or a geography area by performing strategic environmental assessment. EcoSocio Analysts will:

  • Secure access to all information, screen out unreliable data, update old data, and, using a scaling down approach, fill in data gaps;
  • Use modern methods pertaining to social data collection;
  • Use remote sensing, GIS, and other software for developing infrastructure requirements to broaden alternative scenarios;
  • Use impact multiplier calculation techniques to account for delayed and cumulative impacts;
  • Use key indicators selected according to international sustainable development guidelines and principals to develop environmental and social management plans with one, three and five year targets.
